The options are endless!

Pick Your Color

Selecting your color can be difficult but there are many resources to help! Google and Pinterest are good ways to get an idea of what you would like. You can do 2 tone (upper and lowers different colors), have an accent color on just the island, or many other options. A color consultation can be incredibly helpful. We offer a free color consultation if you choose us to complete your project so ask about this when we come to give you a quote and we can schedule this for you.

Grain Fill

Many of the cabinets that we work on are Oak so they have deep grain. The standard option is to pore fill. This is when any deep pore is filled so there is no open grain and you get a uniform color. Doing it this way you will still see the grain of the wood. If you choose the premium option the grain will be completely filled and you will have a very smooth door. This is much more labor but the results are incredible.

Select Your Hardware

You can keep your current door and drawer handles but if you would like to update them now is the perfect time to change them. You can get help picking handles to match your colors online. There is an endless selection to choose from so explore your options!

Replace Doors

Buying new doors for your kitchen cabinets is a great idea if you have an outdated style of door or if you just want a new style. There are many places that you can order new doors online with countless options. Prefinished doors are also an option but when the cabinet boxes get painted to match there is a good chance the color won't match perfectly or a chance the sheen will be off. They could also be damaged in transport. We recommend buying unfinished doors and having them and the old boxes refinished by us for a flawless, durable result.

Refinishing Process

The first step in the refinishing process is to remove and number doors and drawers. Once they are removed everything will be scrubbed with a degreaser.

Next floor protection and countertop protection will be placed, walls and ceilings will be masked off, and cabinet openings will be masked off as well. A dust barrier will be made using plastic sheeting to keep any spray dust in the room being worked on and cleaned up at the end of the project.

After masking everything will be sanded using a surfprep sander with festool dust extractor. Scratching the surface by sanding allows for a physical bond between the primer and substrate and is a crucial step for a lasting finish.  The dust extractor eliminates 99% of dust so no dust gets blown into the finish when spraying. After being sanded all surfaces will be vacuumed off and wiped with a damp microfiber cloth to remove the remaining dust.

Next comes the primer. We use a high build primer from Envirolak. We use this primer because the high build helps fills the grain and any imperfections in the wood, it's also super easy to sand for the smoothest finish. We do 2 coats of primer and sand after each for the best finish.

Finally for the finish coat we also use Envirolak products. They provide amazing durability and a beautiful finish. We apply 2 coats minimum sometimes 3 if needed to every project. After applying the finish coat all masking gets removed, all touch ups needed are done, and everything is cleaned up. When the doors are finished they will be reinstalled and the project is then completed.
